Journey Karaoke Party

The Evite went a little something like this....

"Living without you; living alone. We're wanting to hold you, wanting you near, so now we've come to you with open arms, nothing to hide, believe what we say. Some will win, some will loose, some were born to sing the blues. We never knew what love could do, then we touched and we sang. We stopped believin' there is any chance we are getting tickets to the Journey concert so come sing your heart out at Dexter.

We recommend hot lemon water and honey to warm up the vocals. Feel free to dress in your acid washed jeans and Ocean Pacific hypercolor t-shirt; crimp your hair and buy several bottles of aqua net; layer your socks under your L.A. Gear high tops or Keds.

If singing isn't your thing, backup dancers are always needed. Can't Buy Me Love and Flash Dance are great refresher courses. This is an open invite, so pass it on to all lovers of Journey, karaoke, and/or 80's monster ballads."

While picking up props for my outfit (i.e. GIANT Lip Smackers, see pics below) at The Sugar Shack, Amanda and I met Suzie. Suzie is the owner of The Sugar Shack and overheard our conversation about our 80's-themed karaoke party that evening. Suzie had an 80's party of her own a couple weeks back and had all kinds of decorations and ideas she was more than happy to share with us. She even offered to bring it all over to our house. We, of course, refused, but did agree to stop by the store later that day and pick up all her goods. And being the candy-aficionado that Suzie is, she confirmed that the 80's was all about candy.

A side note: Suzie is a true party-planning mentor for Amanda and I. She does nothing half way; her store is the cutest (a perfect place for Amanda and I to try selling cupcakes) and she appears to have endless energy. The next party she's working on....White Trash Valentine's Day. I hope we get an invite.

Ok, back to the party....

Food: candy and nachos with the nacho cheese you buy in the big can at Costco

Decorations: Neon and Suzie's box of treasures

Outfits: All were purchased day-of at Walmart including the jelly shoes. The 80's really are back.

As is often the case with karaoke parties, everyone walks in and immediately says "I don't sing karaoke. I'm just here to watch." The mics are just too tempting and before you know it, Steve and Amanda are up in front singing "After All" by Cher and Peter Cetera.

A few other highlights:

"That's what friends are for" by the roommates

"Endless Love" round 2 by Greg and Rich

Oh my gosh...you most definitely are my sister with a party like that... or maybe I am yours.. or something! But we are for sure related! I am super envious of this and think that I am going to convince my roommates to copy that exactly. Seeing the pics, it almost made it worth it for you to have the CD's and not us! ;) Love you!
