H2O in all states

I apologize for my long absence. Besides the fact that my life is pretty uneventful here in Arkansas, I have been traveling for work for the past month. Not to any place especially exciting, but it has been a nice break from the office.

So one of the great things about where I live is it's proximity to a huge lake. In less than 7 minutes, I can be at the boat dock. It's very different than most lakes I've been to on the West coast; there are all these little inlets with houses built all around it. And also different than many lakes surrounded by million dollar houses, these are more of the white trash variety. I tried to take pictures, but I figured that might be a little creepy. It's really how I pictured the backwoods of Arkansas.

I can't wait for it to be spring/summer. The lake will be amazing....and what would even be more amazing if Heather could convince her dad to let her bring the boat here this summer.....

The most exciting event of the last month was the ice storm. It's hard to imagine if you didn't experience it, but it was pretty unbelievable. The way people were lining up at grocery stores and gas stations, I thought it might be the end of the world. Almost everything in town was closed for an entire week. And now I understand why. The entire town was an ice rink and it didn't just last a day. Driveways, yards, roads....it was near impossible to get anywhere unless you had a giant ice pick. It took over a week for the ice on my driveway and lawn to melt. A few pics taken in front of my house (over a week later) and by friends:

Brrr... I can't wait for it to be summer for you too. We've made those plans to explore. I plan on taking you up on it.

If you have a lake and a boat I would be a lot more willing to make another trip down to visit you in AK. As for the ice storm, I don't like them. DC has them too...they are beautiful in a way, until they cause hours and hours of traffic jams.

Holy cow! So how far in advance did everyone know it was coming? How long did you guys have to prepare for the "end of the world/week"?
